Education is one of the most prevalent ways to guarantee the class mobility of society.
People consider it as a reliable way to achieve success. Unfortunately, to get a chance of education, people have to pay a substantial amount of tuitions and fees. This may become a barrier that keeps the poor from the door of qualified education, and such a barrier may negatively affect the class mobility of society.
Private schools have higher tuition generally, and they tend to have higher overall scores. As shown in the chart, most schools with a score greater than 60 are private.
Even though many public schools charge relatively low tuition as shown by the blue dots sitting in the bottom left corner, their scores are correspondingly lower, which indicates that the quality of education provided by these public schools is far from satisfactory.
Furthermore, the ranking of each school does not vary greatly from year to year, which implies the situation where good schools charge higher fee does not change in the short-term.
Public school tends to have lower tuition as well as lower overall score, and private school is just the opposite. Also, the positions of the dots don't vary much from year to year, which implies that the situation where good schools charge higher fee does not change in the short-term.
Let's take a closer look at some factors of a univerisity and try to see if there exist some correlations.
Public schools are colored in red, and private schools are in blue. We can see that more percentage of students in private schools can get financial aid. And private schools have lower enrollment. There does not seem to have a strong relationship between institutional control and SAT scores.
